ADOPT A HATCHLING, IT’S EASY!

It has been an exciting summer for Diamondback Terrapin (Turtles) at West Meadow Beach. The nests we were able to locate and protect because of our wonderful volunteer "Turtle Trackers" have been excavated and entered into our "Head Start" program. They have started to hatch. This year we have made some interesting observations and would like to further study their implications. This would lead to a better understanding of how we can best protect and preserve this amazing but vulnerable turtle, native to our shores.  In order to purchase the technology that would make this possible, we have started an "Adopt a Hatchling" Program. We hope you will consider adopting one of our adorable little baby turtles.

Your fully tax deductible donation of $25 or more will provide you with:
  1. A donation receipt.
  2. An adoption certificate with your baby turtle's photo, weight and length, hatch date.
  3. if you are available, a chance to participate in the release of our "Head Start" graduates (baby turtles) into the marsh.
  4. Your photo with the turtle will be taken and included in your certificate if you can come to West Meadow to visit (by arrangement) or during our Head Start Graduation and Release ceremonies.
  5. A good feeling that you have helped us further the study of the turtles at West Meadow Beach.
There are a limited number of babies as well as Head Start Program Graduation and Release Celebrations. So if you want to actually hold and release a turtle— Hurry and adopt one today. Our first group of hatchling babies will graduate this Sunday, August 26th. Participation in this first graduation is limited to adoptive turtle parents and Turtle Trackers.
